What's the Difference?

Wool, Foam and Microfiber Buffing Pads

There are three major types of auto buffing pads. Wool compounding pads are the most aggressive. When used with a rotary polisher and cutting compound, wool buffing pads can take out heavy defects like oxidation, deep scratches, paint drips and dirt nibs. Wool buffing pads are also good for getting rid of holograms and orange peel from the clear coat.

Foam pads with an orbtial polisher are less damaging to the clear coat, but may take longer to get results. Hook and loop cutting pads, polishing pads and finishing pads comprise a three-step system of paint correction. This is usually the easiest system of buffing and polishing after using automotive clay.

Microfiber compounding polishing pads should be used with a random orbital dual action polisher. Check out the Meguiar's MT300, Rupes Bigfoot Mark III or Griot's Garage BOSS polishing machine. These types of microfiber produce the best results when used with compounds and polishes designed for DA polishing.
